Google recently unveiled its Chromebook Plus program to align OEM partners. But rather than empowering innovation, Google centered efforts on cost containment. This agenda yielded capable but unremarkable configurations using off-the-shelf components. Unfortunately, Google reined in ambition in favor of affordability.
